Shakira Signs To Roc Nation as her Management

Roc Nation is part of Live Nation for those of you that are still confused. (Similar to her old label Epic Records= Sony Music) In April 2008, Live Nation partnered with Jay-Z to create Roc Nation. Shakira's upcoming English album TBA will be promoted by her new management Roc Nation.

'Shakira, Shakira! She’s throwing up the Roc.

The superstar Colombian singer has signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for management, has learned.

With worldwide appeal, Shakira has sold more than 60 million albums and won 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards.

With the signing to Roc Nation for management, Shakira joins the likes of Rihanna, Wale, Santigold and Melanie Fiona, who are all signed under Roc Nation’s management umbrella. Managed producers under Roc Nation include Jahlil Beats, No I.D. and S1.

Signed Roc Nation artists of course include the company’s founder, Jay-Z, J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Rita Ora and Willow Smith, the daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.

In related news, Shakira recently recounted a frightening ordeal, during a vacation in Cape Town, South Africa, in which she just narrowly avoided a sea lion attack.

“I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them, doing a baby talk while taking pictures,” Shakira tweeted after last Sunday’s (Feb. 12) incident. ”Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralyzed by fear and couldn’t move.”

Fortunately, she escaped that, the story likely to be one she keeps close to her chest for a long time. Shakira released her sixth studio album, She Wolf, in October 2009, having worked with the likes of The Neptunes on the project. —XXL Staff with reporting by Mariel Concepcion'
