Making The Video - La Tortura (MTV)

SHAKIRA'S NEW VIDEO FOR "LA TORTURA" PREMIERES TODAY ON MTV'S MAKING THE VIDEO AT 6PM!

MTV.com will premiere the clip online starting at 6:30pm today, and "La Tortura" will premiere on TRL TOMORROW, Wednesday, 4/27. Shakira will be calling in to talk about the clip so be sure and tune in!

Alejandro Sanz is Shakira's special guest on "La Tortura".

Making the Video: Shakira is MTV's first ever Spanish Making Of special.

"La Tortura" was directed by the acclaimed Michael Haussman (Kanye West, Madonna, Eric Clapton) and filmed in an original art deco building. "La Tortura" is an upbeat dancehall-flavored track, written by Shakira with a guest appearance from Spanish superstar Alejandro Sanz. Men and women will recognize their respective positions in Shakira's men are from Mars, women are from Venus classic take on relationships.

Surprises await fans in this very sexy, not-so-blissful domestic give-and-take between a man and a woman, in which the man excuses his transgressions, Yo se que no he sido un santo/ Pero lo puedo arreglar amor (I know I haven't been a saint/But I can make it up to you), and his woman fires back with Mejor te guardas todo eso/a otro perro con ese hueso y nos decimos adios (Better save that for yourself/ Take that bone to some other dog, And lets say goodbye).

"Alejandro's voice was exactly what the song needed. His voice is unique, raw, and absolutely sensual," says Shakira about her fictional rival in the song. "He had added a beautiful and unexpected vocal harmony, and played a Cuban Tres (string instrument). What can I say? I'm running his fan club now!"

"Shakira is a little girl and a woman beyond measure, all at the same time," says Sanz. "She feels passionate about her lyrics and the stories she tells; they're not just anecdotes. She has tremendous passion and compassion for the characters in her songs, which in reality are all of us. Working with Shaki has been wonderful, yes, but getting to know her and knowing her has been the best."

Michael Haussman has directed numerous commercials (Kodak, Armani) and videos (his work appears on MTV's List of the greatest videos ever made). Haussman's feature film Blind Horizon (Val Kilmer, Sam Shepherd) will be released later this year.

Shakira has sold more than 25 million albums, received three Latin Grammys and won the Best Latin Pop Album Grammy for her acclaimed MTV Unplugged album. Her breakthrough English album Laundry Service went on to sell 13 million albums worldwide and launch her career into the stratosphere.
